Carrie Underwood Turns Heads With 'Natural' Look for First Time in Decades
Carrie Underwood ditched her trademark blonde and returned to her roots for the first time in decades.
"Well, the last time I saw my natural hair color, I was probably about 12 years old, but I thought it might be time to give it a second chance," Carrie, 42, shared via Instagram on Monday, August 4. Thanks, [Katelin] for helping me get back to my roots!"
The "Before He Cheats" artist called her new look "bronde," dubbing it the "new old me."
Underwood previously revealed her design for a change to her iconic blonde locks, but admitted she didn't "want to shock people."
"I'd love to do a little more with hair color. I've always been blonde!" she told Refinery 29 in a 2012 interview. "If I dyed my hair brown, I don't want people think I'm turning dark and serious. I wish I had started changing my hair around in the beginning, then it wouldn't be such a big shock if I did something like that now."
The Oklahoma native, who got her start after winning season 4 of American Idol in 2005, has topped the country charts of two decades. In that time, she's also become a staple in the NFL.
Underwood will debut her darker hair on stage as she performs the opening for Sunday Night Football as the Cowboys take on the Eagles on September 4, marking her 13th season.
"We’ll be waiting all day to hear it once again!" the network shared in a nod to Underwood's hit song.
