A 25-YEAR-OLD man from Entumbane, Bulawayo, was stabbed to death after trying to explain that he only intervened in a past fight — not participated in it.
Mxolisi Ncube (20) has been arrested for the cold-blooded murder of Maqhawe Nkomo, who died just moments after being stabbed in the thigh at C-turn junction on 5 August 2025.
According to Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, Mxolisi approached the now deceased Maqhawe who was with two friends and accused him of previously assaulting him with others.
“The now deceased apologised and explained to the accused person that he did not assault him but only intervened to stop the fighting,” said Insp Msebele.
Instead of moving on, the suspect reportedly pulled out a flick knife and stabbed Maqhawe once in the right thigh before fleeing the scene.
Friends rushed the bleeding man to the police station to make a report. An ambulance was called but it was too late. “The ambulance crew upon arrival pronounced him dead,” said Insp Msebele.
Police later tracked Mxolisi to his home, where he was arrested and the murder weapon was recovered.
“We appeal to members of the public to desist from use of violence in solving disputes to avoid loss of life. We also warn members of the public against carrying dangerous weapons,” said the provincial police spokesperson.
