Chris Waddle predicts Thomas Frank’s tactical setup for Tottenham vs PSG in the Super Cup
Chris Waddle has now revealed how he thinks Thomas Frank would approach Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain.
While the majority of sides in the English top division are set to play their first competitive game of the 2025/26 season on the weekend of 15 August, Tottenham Hotspur’s case is different.
Thanks to their 1-0 triumph in the Europa League last season against Manchester United in Bilbao, Spain, Tottenham are now set to compete in the UEFA Super Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The clash, which is set to take place on 13 August in Udine, Italy, will mark Thomas Frank’s first competitive game in charge and a chance for the Dane to win his first ever trophy in his career, and as Tottenham boss.
Chris Waddle predicts defensive approach from Thomas Frank in Tottenham vs PSG
Speaking to TalkSPORTBet, Chris Waddle gave his thoughts on how he expects Tottenham and Thomas Frank to approach the Super Cup final against the French champions, Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Spurs man suggested that Frank is not the sort of manager who would throw caution to the wind, especially against a team as dangerous as PSG.
He believes Tottenham will look to frustrate their opponents and play a more conservative style of football on the night.
“Thomas Frank, he is a very conservative manager. I think he will park the bus. We saw what PSG did to Inter Milan and what they can do to teams. They were sensational last year.
“Thomas Frank is not going to go to a game and say, ‘Let us have a shootout.’ He is not that type of guy or manager.
“So I can see them going in thinking, ‘Listen, park the bus. If we get a result, that is great. If we get beat 1 or 2 nil, it does not look too bad.’ That is how I see it going,” Waddle told TalkSPORTBet.
Spurs fans will not care how Frank wins
Of course, it is a final and a one-off clash between the two sides, which makes winning the most important thing for Spurs. No Tottenham fan would care if Thomas Frank wins by playing attacking football or if he parks the bus.
For Tottenham, a win would help maintain the winning culture within this group, following their most recent triumph in the Europa League. This match would serve as a good litmus test for the Lilywhites, who are now back in the UEFA Champions League.
If they can handle the pressure of playing against the European champions, then confidence would be high going into the new season, where UCL football would also take centre stage.
