Former ‘Scream’ Star Alison Brie Nails Franchise’s Biggest Problem Ahead of ‘Scream 7’
Popular actress Alison Brie said it so that many others didn’t have to. A member of the former Scream cast, who’s starred in Community, GLOW, and most recently, Together, Brie recently opened up about the franchise and pinpointed what the "problem" with the modern-day films is.
In short, Brie, who played book publicist Rebecca Walters in Scream 4, gave the honest opinion that too many people live in the Scream films. She specifically highlighted "the core four" during an interview on the podcast Shut Up Evan.
Alison Brie on the Problem With the 'Scream' Franchise as Dave Franco Pitches Her Comeback
Brie's husband and fellow actor/co-star of Together, Dave Franco, was also featured on the podcast, and he kicked off the conversation by pitching her return for Scream 7.
"I feel like with new Scream rules, even though she died brutally, we could bring her back," Franco said.
"Yeah, where's my role in Scream 7?" Brie replied.
The 42-year-old actress then dove right into the recent Scream films, giving her honest insight.
"Can I tell you my problem with the current era of the Scream franchise? Too many people live," Brie said. "The core four needs to die. We killed [Jamie Kennedy] in Scream 2...We should be down to two of the core four by Scream 7."
Franco pointed out that the franchise did kill off David Arquette's popular character, Dewey Riley, to which Brie replied, calling it a "mistake."
"I know, and that was very sad; that was a mistake. Keep the main three," she joked.
The conversation surrounding Brie's return stemmed from the reports that names like Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley would reprise the roles of their deceased characters in Scream 7. Brie pointed out that Hayden Panettiere came back in the same fashion during the sixth film.
