Claudia Schiffer Just Revived Barbiecore With This Stunning Swimsuit Moment
Supermodel Claudia Schiffer is proving that Barbiecore never went out of fashion.
The 53-year-old fashionista showed how chic the Barbie style can look in any season of life. Schiffer shared a snapshot and video of her ice plunge in a glamorous Chloe one-piece swimsuit on her Instagram page. The floral design with soft pastels and an adorable bow at the shoulder showed off her gorgeous curves. She accessorized the swimwear with a pair of white sunglasses and a high ponytail fit for Poolside Barbie. (You can see the image here.)
While her three-minute plunge did look a bit torturous in temperature, Schiffer handled it like the total pro that she is. When Schiffer turned 50 in 2020, she shared with Harper’s Bazaar some of her proudest modeling moments in her high-fashion career. Even though she and other supermodels often competed for jobs, Schiffer loved the project they worked on together in 1995: Fashion Cafe in New York City.
She, along with Naomi Campbell, Elle Macpherson, and Christy Turlington, was the face of the popular eatery — and Schiffer loved it.
“The press described it as the ‘Couture version of The Hard Rock Café!’ A total of 28,000 T-shirts were sold in the gift shop in the first four months alone! Myself and the other girls were on the cover of every magazine and in every campaign,” she told the fashion magazine. “We lived and breathed it, and we developed unprecedented control over our careers. Also, although we could be competitive, there was a lot of camaraderie between us, too. We looked out for each other, and we weren’t afraid to speak up.”
The success of the restaurant was short-lived, though, even after expanding to seven locations, including “London, Jakarta, and New Orleans,” per W Magazine. But, the franchise’s financial backer, Tommaso Buti, faced tax and rent issues, and the restaurants closed in 1998. Still, the good memories live on.
That failed project never deterred Schiffer from exploring her role as an entrepreneur. “I’m very lucky to love what I do and to be able to pick and choose my projects with partners that I admire,” she summed up to Harper’s Bazaar. “I’m also enjoying the different avenues my career has taken, particularly roles where I am designing or curating collections, which felt like a natural next step for me.”
