Brandon Nimmo was removed in the second inning Tuesday from the game against the Nationals. It was initially unclear why, but the Mets announced shortly thereafter that it was due to neck stiffness.

Nimmo has dealt with neck pain in the past. He exited a game with the same issue as recently as May of this season. He learned back in 2019 that he had a bulging cervical disk pushing on a nerve in his neck. He’s managed to avoid any IL stints since late in the 2023 season.

Nimmo hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the first inning and played defense in the bottom of the first. He was replaced in the field by Starling Marte in the bottom of the second.

Nimmo was riding a seven-game hitting streak and hitting .254/.325/.436 with 20 homers when he was replaced. We will update this post if more information becomes available.
