NYC mosquito spraying planned to combat West Nile virus

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- As of Thursday afternoon, the New York City Department of Health reported that 810 mosquitoes tested across the five boroughs have tested positive for the West Nile virus.

The majority of positive cases were found in Queens and Staten Island.

To reduce the number of mosquitoes, the Department of Health has scheduled pesticide spraying for August 25 to 27.

During spraying, residents are encouraged to stay indoors. If exposed to pesticides, wash skin and clothing with soap and water.

The Bronx

Trucks will spray sections of the Bronx between 8:30 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday, weather permitting.

In case of bad weather, the spraying will happen between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Manhattan

Trucks will spray sections of Manhattan between 12 and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, weather permitting.

In case of bad weather, spraying will be delayed until 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
