Shreyas Iyer’s name was not even in reserve list of Indian squad for Asia Cup squad? BCCI says this: Report

Shreyas Iyer was not named in Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025. With 243 runs while averaging at 48.60, Shreyas was the highest run-scorer of the team and overall second-highest run-getter in the Champions Trophy 2025. His campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 ended with 604 runs in 17 matches while averaging at 50.33.

Even though Shreyas Iyer has a fairly decent performance in the T20I format- with 1104 runs in 51 matches at an average of 30.66, he did not get named in India’s main 15-man squad for the Asia Cup, his name was not even in the five-member reserve list.

Now, a report has stated that Shreyas Iyer was not picked because he is not a player to be just sitting on the benches. “A seasoned player like Shreyas can’t be named in the reserves, please understand this! If you pick him, he plays in the XI. No one has any grudge against Iyer. He will get his chances and play many matches for India in all three formats. It’s just that right now, he didn’t fit in!” a BCCI source said as per TOI.
