David said that after a recent stand-up show, he had a group of fans in two separate cars follow him on the road that leads to his Los Angeles home.
“And there’s two cars behind me. I don’t even notice. They’re kind of on my ass. I’m like, ‘Oh s‑‑‑.’ It’s pitch-black up there. It’s a perfect place for carjacking [or a] robbery,” David recalled, saying that he pulled over before he got all the way to his driveway so he could retrieve his pepper spray and confront his pursuers.
“They pull up next to me and stopped. Five guys in a car. And I got my window cracked,” David said. He continued on to reveal that the group asked him to sign some merchandise like Funko Pop figures.
“They almost got [pepper] sprayed,” David recalled. “And then I went into my driveway. I was kind of nervous now. I go, if they come behind me, I’m gonna get the gun. Just show it to him like, ‘Hey, this is for real. Now you’re in my house. You can’t do this.’”
David went on to say that he wouldn’t call the group of people who followed him home his “fans,” instead referring to them going to such drastic lengths to get autographs as a “business.”
He said, “They’re not really fans. I love fans, but we talked about this before, it’s not fans. It’s a business. They followed me all the way home. That’s even scarier.”
