Moped rider hits open car door, run over by 18-wheeler in East Village: NYPD

EAST VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) — A man was killed in the East Village after being run over by an 18-wheeler on Friday, according to police.

Police responded to the reported accident just after 1 p.m. on Friday near 3rd Avenue and St. Marks Place in Manhattan.

According to authorities, Ricardo Muriel Marin, 39, was riding his moped on 3rd Avenue when he hit an open van door and fell out into the street. He was then hit by an 18-wheeler, police said.

EMS responded and pronounced Muriel Marin, of Queens, dead at the scene.

Both the van and truck drivers remained on the scene following the accident. No arrests were made, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
