Violent attack, arrest, and serious crash reported across Cyprus
A group of people reportedly forced entry into a residence occupied by their compatriots, carrying bats and large knives in Strovolos, the police said on Wednesday.
Inside the home, the group is alleged to have caused damage to various items and equipment shortly after midnight. Motorcycles belonging to the residents and a car parked in the yard were also reportedly damaged. One resident sustained injuries to his back, head, and hands, possibly from a sharp object, and was taken by ambulance to Nicosia general hospital for treatment. Authorities also reported that a sum of money belonging to two residents was taken. The Nicosia CID is continuing its investigation.
In Limassol, a 46-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in connection with an investigation into the illegal possession of property. Police conducted a search of an abandoned building, where the man was found along with electrical appliances, power tools, and other items. He could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding the ownership of the items. Limassol’s minor offences department is continuing its inquiries.
A serious Paphos road accident occurred around 9pm on Tuesday on Michalaki Kyprianou Avenue. A 72-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle for reasons under investigation. The car went off the road, hit a concrete water pillar, and overturned. The driver was taken to Paphos general hospital with injuries including broken ribs, spinal trauma, a haemothorax, abrasions, and a head haematoma. He was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Police conducted a breathalyser test, recording an initial reading of 90mg and a final reading of 84mg. The Peyia police station and Paphos traffic department are continuing their investigation.
