Norwalk police host car show to benefit fallen officers

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will play host to a car show this weekend to benefit three fallen colleagues who died in an explosion in July.

Deputies from the LASD’s Norwalk Station are organizing the show, set from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the parking lot of Splash! Regional Aquatics Center, 13806 La Mirada Blvd., in La Mirada. The event will feature music, food, vendors, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and awards for car entries. Admission is free.

The car show will honor the three sheriff’s Arson Unit detectives killed in the line of duty at the Biscailuz Regional Training Center in East Los Angeles. Arson investigators William Osborn, Joshua Kelley-Eklund and Victor Lemus died July 18 when one of two grenades seized from a Santa Monica apartment complex storage bin a day earlier exploded. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is leading the investigation into the deadly blast.

Detective Osborn was the most senior of the three, joining the department in 1992. He served at the Men’s Central Jail and Industry Station before moving to the training bureau in 2016 and then the arson and explosives unit three years later. He was considered a leader among his peers, officials said. Osborn is survived by his wife, Detective Shannon Rincon, four sons and two daughters.

Detective Lemus joined the department in 2003, working first at the Twin Tower Correctional Facility before serving as a senior training officer and detective at the Century Station. He joined the Arson and Explosive unit last year. Lemus is survived by his wife, Sheriff’s Department Detective Nancy Lemus, and three daughters.

Detective Kelly-Eklund joined the department in 2006. He worked assignments at the Pitchess Detention Center North and the North County Correctional Facility before moving to the Lennox and South LA stations. He also mentored younger deputies as a field training officer before becoming a detective in the Narcotics Bureau. He is survived by his wife, Jessica, and their seven children, officials said.
