Awati County in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has been converted from a desertified, arid landscape into a flourishing wetland in the past five years. “You just have to think outside the box and be patient,” guided the initiative, involving urban wastewater recycling, large-scale drip irrigation, and expanded forest planting.
