Fionn Hayes Report From The Elmo Trophy
The Elmo trophy ran through the sixth and seventh of September in a blustery Dun Laoghaire. Saturday appeared with strong 20 knot conditions, which resulted with few teams sailing one race and many sailing none on day one, due to cancellation. Despite the sailing being cancelled it was still great fun, as four star pizza dropped off many pizzas and everyone was with their friends. Later in the evening, everyone appeared back in the RSGYC for the Elmo dinner. The highlight of the weekend for most sailors. This is when everybody gets dressed up in their finest gear and picks their favourite song to sing a karaoke while eating dinner.
Return Sunday morning started bright and early with 25 knot gust of winds, which pushed the launching time to 12 o'clock. The race committee managed to fit in many races despite the conditions faced. These races resulted in four unbeaten teams that went through to the semis. Fast forward to the final and runners up last year schull sharks were crowned champions, and one of our own Daniel copithorne was on the victorious winning team. So a victory for us all till next year
