Study Reveals Most 'Foul-Mouthed' NFL Fanbase

0

NFL fanhood is not for the fainthearted. Every Sunday--or Monday, or Thursday, and sometimes random Wednesdays, Fridays or Saturdays--fans live and die with their favorite teams.

Even for the best squads, NFL regular season games can be 60-minute roller coasters. Fan emotions are on tilt, ranging from despair to elation and everything in between.

With all of that back-and-forth, it's not surprising that many fans use a fair share of salty language during games. A recent study from VegasInsider has attempted to quantify which fanbase is the "most foul-mouthed" in the league.

"At first, a sample of comments from the subreddits of the NFL fandoms was collected (with a minimum of 15,000 comments per fandom) and subsequently it was analyzed how much % of their comments included swear words," VegasInsider explains.

After the numbers were crunched, it was determined that Indianapolis Colts supporters have the biggest potty mouths in the NFL.

Most Foul-Mouthed Fanbases

  • Indianapolis Colts - 16.4% of subreddit comments contained curse words.
  • Cincinnati Bengals - 15.9%
  • Dallas Cowboys - 15.3%
  • New York Giants - 14.7%
  • Cleveland Browns - 14.6%

The Colts also had the third-most negative fanbase in the league, with the Bengals coming in first and Cowboys second.

Oh, and the most popular curse word for every NFL fanbase? It begins with an S.

These findings are a bit surprising

We have to say, we're a little shocked to see Colts fans leading the league in swearing and being top three in negativity, and it's not just because of the whole "Midwestern Nice" thing.

While the other teams in the foul-mouthed top five are either struggling or suffered a major injury (See Joe Burrow, Bengals), the Colts are thriving to start 2025.

Indianapolis is one of the league's biggest surprises through three weeks, posting a 3-0 record and looking like an offensive juggernaut. Free agent quarterback Daniel Jones looks rejuvenated in Indy after failing with the New York Giants, and a healthy Jonathan Taylor is once again displaying why he's one of the best running backs in the NFL.

You would think that would make Colts fans a little happier, but perhaps they're still getting over the PTSD of four consecutive seasons with no playoff appearances. Fortunately, that streak looks like it could be ending soon.
