Rain delays start of White Sox game at Nationals

WASHINGTON — Rain delayed the start of the White Sox’ game against the Nationals Saturday.

The Sox’ penultimate game of a triple-digit-loss season was supposed to start at 3:05 p.m. but steady rains were soaking the Washington area and the weather forecast didn’t look much better for the rest of the evening. There wasn't an estimated start time.

Tyler Gilbert was slated to open the game for the Sox, followed by Sean Burke pitching in a bulk role. Jake Irvin was set to take the bump for the Nats.

The Sox narrowly won the series opener after blowing a seven-run lead over their fellow MLB cellar-dwellers. Colson Montgomery’s ninth-inning two-run home run salvaged the Sox’ 10-9 victory.

The teams are scheduled to play the final game of the season at 2:05 p.m. Sunday.
