Cubs secure home-field advantage for wild-card round, will host Padres in best-of-three that starts Tuesday

The Cubs are staying home for the opening round of the playoffs.

Their 7-3 win Saturday over the rival Cardinals gave them home-field advantage in the wild-card series next week against the Padres. All games in the best-of-three set, scheduled for Tuesday-Thursday, will be played at Wrigley Field.

“The fans, it’s a gift you want to give to them,” team president Jed Hoyer said Friday. “Our fans have been awesome all summer, really amazing crowds. … They’ve been awesome and showing up in droves and loud all summer.”

The Cubs have gone 49-31 in their first 80 home games this season. They wrap up the regular season Sunday. Start times and TV information will be announced later. ESPN has the rights to all wild-card games. It will air one of the four series on ABC.
