An explosion and fire in a Munich residential area left one man dead, prompting police evacuations, bomb squad deployment, and suspension of Oktoberfest as investigations continue.

German media reported that an explosion followed by a fire broke out early Wednesday, October 1, in a residential district of Munich, leaving one man dead.

Police and fire services, joined by special units and bomb disposal experts, rushed to the scene after the blast was reported. Authorities confirmed that the fire may have been deliberately set due to a family dispute.

At around 5 a.m., police discovered a burned-out vehicle and a severely injured man near the site. The victim later died of his injuries before noon. Investigators also reported finding explosive devices planted inside the residence.

Police evacuated the residential area to ensure safety, as bomb specialists continued to secure the scene. Nearby residents were urged to remain cautious.

In a message via WhatsApp, Munich police said: “We are investigating all possibilities, including potential links to other locations in the city, such as the Oktoberfest festival.”

Reports indicated that Munich’s world-famous Oktoberfest beer festival was suspended on Wednesday following the incident, as a precautionary measure.

Authorities stressed that investigations are ongoing and that public safety remains the highest priority while they work to determine the motive and potential wider threats.
