Scientists are presenting new evidence that the worst effects of climate change can’t be avoided without a major transformation of food systems. The new report comes from the EAT-Lancet Commission, which brought together scientists from around the world to update a report first made in 2019. Their research found that about 15 million deaths could be avoided each year, and agricultural emissions could drop by 15%, if people worldwide would shift to healthier diets that depend mostly on plants. A study co-author said if the world doesn't transition away from what he calls an unsustainable food path, efforts to safeguard the climate will fail.
