Cleveland County steps in amid Lexington police officer shortage

Lexington, Okla. (KFOR) — Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason says his deputies will step in as the Lexington Police Department deals with a shortage of officers.

Amason says deputies will increase patrol coverage in Lexington starting Friday, when the department drops to just one full-time officer.

"These additional patrols are necessary to ensure the continued safety and security of Lexington’s residents,” Sheriff Amason said.

The Sheriff adds that his deputies will continue their patrols until the town of Lexington finds a permanent solution in place.
