Pakistan Accuses India of Fueling Border Clashes With Afghanistan

0

Pakistan accused India of provoking recent border clashes with Afghanistan, alleging New Delhi’s growing ties with Kabul have intensified regional tensions and destabilized the frontier.

Islamabad has accused New Delhi of stoking recent border clashes between Pakistani forces and the Taliban, calling India’s growing ties with Kabul a “provocation.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Defense Minister Khawaja Asif claimed India was “inciting” the Taliban administration in Afghanistan, describing it as a “proxy force” acting against Islamabad’s interests. The comments came after deadly cross-border violence that left dozens dead and destroyed infrastructure along the frontier.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Pakistani officials believe India’s diplomatic outreach with Kabul has deepened instability, particularly following Indian meetings with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi earlier this month. Afghan analyst Waheed Faqiri told AFP that “India’s engagement with Kabul forced Pakistan to respond,” suggesting it aggravated regional tensions.

The recent flare-up followed explosions in Kabul and Paktika on October 9, which the Taliban blamed on Pakistan’s “unprecedented aggression.” In retaliation, Taliban fighters launched border attacks, leading to over a week of deadly artillery exchanges and drone strikes before a new ceasefire was reached on October 19.

Once allies, Afghanistan and Pakistan have seen relations deteriorate since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021. Islamabad now accuses Kabul of providing safe haven to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants responsible for deadly attacks inside Pakistan.Reports stated that more than 100 Pakistani troops and police were killed in October alone in cross-border assaults launched from Afghanistan territory. Pakistan’s frustration has been compounded by its struggling domestic security situation and mounting political pressure.

The growing violence has also intensified Pakistan’s campaign to deport Afghan refugees, with millions forced back across the border amid allegations of criminal involvement — a move criticized by international human rights groups.

India has strongly denied Pakistan’s accusations, saying Islamabad is attempting to deflect blame for its internal security failures. Analysts warn that without renewed diplomacy, the triangular hostility among India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan could spiral into a broader regional crisis, threatening already fragile stability in South Asia.
