Championship crowns await Extreme Festival
Championship crowns await Extreme Festival Presented By Coca-Cola national stars at Zwartkops Raceway.
An exhilarating national Extreme Festival Presented By Coca-Cola tour will conclude this coming weekend (24-25 October) at Zwartkops Raceway with the crowning of the 2025 champions.
Commonly known as the home of the tour, the Pretoria-based circuit will host the national roster for the second time this year.
Saturday’s race day programme will commence with Round 5 of the Extreme SuperCars Driven By Dunlop, one of two series that will see three races. With a 19-point advantage over Ricky Giannoccaro (G&H Transport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO), Jonathan du Toit (Trans Africa Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO) appears to be the firm favourite to take the title. However, with the series contenders all competing in different classes, it is not as straightforward as it may seem.
Jonathan du Toit also heads up the GT3 class, where he will compete against Charl Arangies (Stradale Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO) and Gianni Giannoccaro (BISC Transport Audi R8 LMS GT3). Ricky Giannoccaro’s on-circuit rivals will include fellow Class A competitors Kris Budnik (Bucketlist Composites Dodge Viper) and Paul Hill (Promigen Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO 2).
Heading into Round 7 of the GR Cup Driven By Netstar, all three titles have already been wrapped up, yet there will still be a lot of bragging rights to play for in the season finale.
Nine of the 11 wins in the GR 86 Class have gone to Jason Coetzee, who will be eager to end his season on a high. However, Kent Swarts, who has won the other two races, and Mbuso Ngwenya will both be keen to take the maximum points available in their battle for the runner-up spot.
Mario de Sousa has also wrapped up the GR Corolla Class. With second-placed Devon Scott not entered, Werner Venter will look to leapfrog a spot in the season finale, as well as take his first win of the season.
While Nabil Abdool has tied up the GR Yaris Class, he saw his 100% winning streak come to an end at Killarney International Raceway, where hometown hero Kyle Kock took both race wins. This has seen Kock take the upper hand in the battle for the runner-up spot, ahead of Phuti Mpyane.
The Astron Energy Polo Cup is set to crown a first-time champion in Round 7 this weekend. Rory Atikinson (Industry Petroleum) took a three-point lead at the all-Volkswagen Polo GTI series’ penultimate round. Mohammed Karodia (Fast 5 Motorsport) will look to retake the advantage, but it is Atikinson who holds the win-advantage at Zwartkops Raceway, where he scored his grand slam of points earlier this year. Karodia’s last race win was in Round 3. Mathematically, both Judd Bertholdt (Volkswagen Rookie Cup) and Ethan Coetzee (Ethan Coetzee Motorsport) are still in the hunt as well.
In the Masters Class, Wayne Masters (Performance Masters) will look to take the title for the second consecutive year. He holds a 29-point advantage over Derick Smalberger (Sabertek), who is two points ahead of John Kruger (Habot Lubricants).
The inaugural Investchem MSA4 championship will conclude with a three-race fifth round.
KC Ensor-Smith (African Heating) and Mikel Bezuidenhout (Corsa Dei Gemelli) will both look to finish the weekend with their maiden main circuit title. Taking the current dropped points into account, Ensor-Smith holds a five-point advantage. Mathematically, Renzo Ribeiro (Metal Used Spares & Rebuilds) is also still in the running. So too is Shrien Naidoo, who has not entered the season finale due to university exam commitments.
This will be the eighth and penultimate round of the SunBet ZX10 Masters Cup, with the all-Kawasaki ZX10 series still having a standalone round scheduled at Red Star Raceway as well. Clinton Seller (King Price Xtreme), although absent in Cape Town, has already wrapped up his second successive title. With only 100 points still available, he holds a 121-point advantage over Greame van Breda (Stefanutti Stocks). Seller has now won every race he has entered in the past two seasons.
Seller has also wrapped up Class A, where Hein McMahon (K9 Law Enforcement) and Damion Purificati (Amalgum Welding Shop) will continue their battle for the runner-up spot. It’s a similar scenario in Class B, where Van Breda already clinched the title. Reginald Seale (HX Consulting Services) has a 63-point lead over Dieter Huysamen, who has not entered for Round 8. The battle is still in Class C, with Jayson Lamb (Buffalo Service Centre) 32 points clear of Johan Le Roux (Avidan), who is 22 points ahead of Joao Cruz (Extreme Bike).
There’s one point in it heading into Round 6 of the Volkswagen Rookie Cup. Christopher Tate (Sportex) leads Josh Moore (BPW/ Puma), heading the all-Volkswagen Polo Vivo GT series’ season finale. Mauro Da Luz (Retail) and Uzair Khan (TSS) also still have outside chances in the title battle.
Michael van Rooyen (Toyota Gazoo Racing Toyota Corolla) is the favourite to take his maiden South African Touring Cars championship crown heading into Round 7. He holds a 29-point lead over 2025 debutant Jagger Robertson (76 Legacy Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI). The latter will also need to look out for Keegan Campos (Campos Transport BMW 128ti) and Julian van der Watt (Chemical Logistics Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI).
Tate Bishop (ANGRi Racing Volkswagen Polo SupaCup) and Jonathan Mogotsi (Volkswagen Genuine Parts Volkswagen Polo SupaCup) might have already tied up the top two spots in the SATC SupaCup, but the battle for third place is still on, with the incumbent Charl Visser not competing. Jason Loosemore (Astron Energy Volkswagen Polo SupaCup) heads up that battle.
However, the series, now concluding its sixth season, will have a star-studded line-up of drivers, including a former champion. Joining this year’s champion, Bishop, and 2024 winner Jonathan Mogotsi will be Leyton Fourie (Volkswagen Polo SupaCup), the 2022 winner.
Tickets for Saturday’s action-packed race day can be purchased from the Zwartkops Raceway entrance gate, at R140 per adult, R100 per student, and with children under 12 entering for free.
