Will Yashasvi Jaiswal get to play in 2nd ODI against Australia? Here’s what Indian coach said
India’s young left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal has secured himself a solid position as the opener in Test cricket, but is still waiting on chances in the white-ball format. Jaiswal is named for the (ongoing) ODI series against Australia after being left out from the Champions Trophy 2025 and the Asia Cup T20 2025.
Since Rohit Sharma is being played as the opener along with Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal might not get the chance to feature and might just warm the benches. When asked about this situation, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak expressed his honest opinion in a simple manner.
“I think he’s in the squad, in the practice, and they (other youngsters) are pretty much aware that their turn will come, and they prepare well. At the end of the day, only 11 can play, so you have to wait for your turn and then perform,” Kotak said.
Speaking about Yashasvi Jaiswal, he scored 15 runs on his ODI debut against England in Nagpur earlier this year. He was also named in the initial Champions Trophy 2025 squad, but was then taken out as the team management decided to go with mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy.
