Bay Area News Group girls athlete of the week: Azaria Nelson, James Logan volleyball

James Logan volleyball player Azaria Nelson is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for Oct. 13-18.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nelson had 48% of the vote to edge runner-up Alice Darrin Bascomb, a Pittsburg water polo player who finished at 46.6%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Nelson, a senior, posted 12 kills and hit .588 as Logan swept Mission San Jose 3-0 in a Mission Valley Athletic League battle. She added seven aces, four blocks and one dig.
