Liverpool’s recent form may be bad news for Tottenham in January transfer pursuit
Liverpool’s poor run of results of late has made them more likely to contest Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of an exciting Premier League star in January.
Since ENIC injected equity of £100m into Tottenham, Spurs fans have been dreaming of potential big-name signings in January.
Spurs officials have been vocal in saying that they are now going after ready-made stars, with the transfer policy having evolved over the last two years.
One transfer rumour will excite the supporters more than most: the claims in the press that Spurs have moved to pole position in the race to land Antonie Semenyo in January.
Tottenham could face competition from Liverpool for Antoine Semenyo
It has been made clear by several sources that Spurs will have to battle several Premier League clubs for Semenyo’s signature.
Now, journalist Mark Douglas has provided some bad news to the Lilywhites by revealing that Liverpool’s struggles of late have increased the chances that they will now make a big offer for the Bournemouth star.
Dougles told The Anfield Wrap: “The story for me this week is that they may push the button in January [for Semenyo]. Liverpool do have a tradition of doing stuff then if they feel like they can get ahead of the game. Salah’s going to the African Nations. Ghana didn’t qualify so Semenyo won’t be going.”
Confusion over what it will take to land Semenyo
CaughtOffside have relayed these quotes from Dougles and have suggested that it will take a big offer from the Reds to convince the Cherries to part ways with their star man mid-season.
We have previously heard suggestions that Bouremouth want £80m to cash in on Semenyo, given that the winger signed a long-term deal just this summer.
However, there have also been claims that Semenyo has an undisclosed release clause in his contract at Bournemouth, which may give hope to his suitors that a deal can be completed at a cheaper price.
