Schumer slams 'unhinged' Trump '60 Minutes' interview: 'Maybe I should file a complaint'

0

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) suggested he should file a complaint with the federal government over the editing of an interview President Trump gave to "60 Minutes," which aired on Sunday night.

"Maybe I should file a complaint with the FCC against the Trump White House for editing his unhinged 60 Minutes interview," Schumer wrote in a post on the social platform X. "It will use the exact same language Trump lodged against Vice President Harris."

Schumer was making reference to Trump's lawsuit against CBS which came after his legal team argued the network edited an interview it conducted with her just days before the 2024 election to cast the Democrat in a positive light.

Paramount, CBS's parent company, settled the lawsuit last summer for $16 million, though it did not issue an apology or acknowledge any wrongdoing for how it handled the Harris sit down.

Trump, during a portion of his interview with "60 Minutes" this week that did not air on Sunday, praised the new leadership at CBS and has previously spoken positively about Paramount's billionaire owner Larry Ellison and his son, the new chief executive of the sprawling media conglomerate.

CBS released a full transcript of its interview on Sunday night, a notable move that comes after Trump and his allies pressed the network to publish a transcript of the Harris interview in the months leading up to the president's lawsuit being filed.

The White House promoted the sit-down on Monday morning, calling it a "powerful interview" that the president used to "showcase record stock market gains, global peace breakthroughs, and his unwavering commitment to law and order."

"Highlighting these remarkable successes, President Trump made clear to Democrats: reopen the government and work with him to keep America on the path to even greater prosperity and security," the White House said.
