Local veteran receives a new roof

HUDSON FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- As Veteran’s Day approaches — one local Navy veteran is getting a much-needed home repair, thanks to a partnership aimed at giving back to those who served. Three organizations came together to get Navy veteran Mike Sedon a new roof.

"I was a United States Navy for years, active two years... And you know, as a result of that, this this became available. And it has– it's been a godsend." said veteran Mike Sedon. Rebuilding Together Saratoga County supports veterans and their families in Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties — providing home repairs at no cost.

That organization connected Sedon with Next Generation Roofing — who partnered with Owens Corning to donate and install a new roof. "I think anyone that we work with is glad to receive the assistance that we can provide them. We try to target certain demographics this time of year, especially for Veteran’s Day, to help those veterans in our areas the most." said Clarice Eaton, the Community Relations Manager for Rebuilding Together of Saratoga County.

The “Roof Deployment Project” is now in its seventh year and has provided over 700 free roofs for veterans nationwide. Sedon said that this repair could not have come sooner, as he has been experiencing problems with his roof. He went on to say, "The roof has been leaking since we actually bought the place, you know, almost eight years ago. And again, thanks for this. The crew and the company Next Generation roofing their team has been tremendous to work with."

Chad Gregory, Owner and CEO of Next Generation Roofing, Paving and Siding said, "When somebody’s ceiling’s falling down and they’re finances aren’t in order and they’re living on a fixed income, it’s super important that these entities got together to replace this roof before it caused further damage inside his home."

Gregory said it’s about giving back to those who sacrificed for our country, "There's a growing need and there’s a growing responsibility from the community to make sure that we always, the veterans, protect our freedoms. We need to make sure that when they’re back in our communities that we’re also protecting the homes that they live in as well."
