Morning Briefing: Mets Offered More Money to Richardson
Good morning, Mets fans!
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Mets offered to double former first-base/baserunning coach Antoan Richardson’s salary to more than $300,000 per year over two years, but he still chose to join the Braves.
Heyman added that Juan Soto is “disappointed” by Richardson’s departure, saying the coach helped turn him into an NL stolen-base leader. Richardson’s departure was notable and highlighted internal frustration within the organization, underscoring the Mets’ disappointment in losing a coach they valued highly.
The non-tender deadline is this evening. We examined the possible candidates, and Danny Young is reportedly being non-tendered.
