Hong Kong Asian Open and Thessaloniki Cadet European Cup Await Two GB Judo Teams

Two teams of British judoka will compete abroad this weekend (22–23 February 2025) as athletes head to China and Greece for the Hong Kong Asian Open and the Thessaloniki Cadet European Cup.

Hong Kong Asian Open

Six British judoka will take to the tatami in China at the 2025 Hong Kong Asian Open.

Ayoub Dafallah (Palavani) will contest the -60kg category in what will be his third international appearance of the year. In the -73kg division, Oliver Short (Judo Scotland) and Cameron Charles (Camberley JC) will look to make their mark.

Peter Davies (Ealing JC) enters the -81kg field, while clubmate Corey O’Neal Narcis (Ealing JC) steps into action in the -90kg category.

Completing the British line-up in China is Madeleine Birri (Ealing JC), who will compete in the -57kg division.

Thessaloniki Cadet European Cup

A team of 11 British cadets will represent Great Britain in Greece at the Thessaloniki Cadet European Cup.

In the -55kg category, Muhammad Talhah Syed (Ealing JC) and Harry Egleton (Bishops Stortford JK) will fly the flag, while Luka Abashidze (Bishops Stortford JK) competes at -73kg. Gheorghe Tataru (Palavani) enters the -90kg field.

Nicola Bulga (Budokwai) will compete at -48kg, with Hannah King (Bishops Stortford JK) stepping into the -52kg category.

Elizabeth Merredew (Bishops Stortford JK) takes to the mat in the -57kg division, while Aleksandra Dudko (Ealing JC) competes at -63kg.

Rounding off the team, Robyn Davies (Ealing JC) will contest the -70kg category, and Deborah O’Neal (Ealing JC) will compete in the +70kg division.
