Seven Killed in TTP Attack on Peace Committee Office in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Seven people were killed when TTP militants attacked a Peace Committee office in Pakistan’s Bannu district, highlighting rising violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistani media have reported that seven people were killed in an attack claimed by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on a government-linked peace body in the country’s northwest. The assault targeted the Peace Committee office in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Friday, November 21, also leaving one person injured.

According to The Express Tribune, the attack struck a local committee tasked with promoting stability in an area long troubled by militancy. The incident adds to a rising wave of violence blamed on the Pakistani Taliban, who have stepped up operations against security forces and state institutions in recent months.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the assault, calling it a “cowardly act to undermine peace and stability.” He said the government stood united against those seeking to sow fear, and pledged continued support for efforts aimed at restoring security.

The attack comes as tensions between Islamabad and Kabul persist. Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban of allowing TTP fighters to operate from Afghanistan soil, an allegation the Taliban government has consistently rejected.

Violence linked to the TTP has surged despite ongoing Pakistani military operations in the region, fuelling concerns about the country’s ability to contain the group’s expanding footprint. Analysts warn that continued instability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could hinder broader counterinsurgency efforts.

The latest attack highlights the enduring threat posed by the TTP, despite government claims of progress in curbing militancy. Officials say the group’s cross-border sanctuaries and evolving tactics complicate Pakistan’s security landscape.

The incident underscores the fragile state of security in Pakistan’s northwest, where peace initiatives remain vulnerable to militant violence. As Islamabad faces mounting domestic and regional pressures, sustained coordination and a unified response may prove essential to countering the TTP threat.
