Imran Khan Held in Death-Row Isolation Cell for Six Weeks, Family Says
Imran Khan has been held in a death-row isolation cell for six weeks without any family contact, raising serious concerns about his safety and treatment.
The family of former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan says he has been held in a death-row isolation cell for the past six weeks with no communication allowed. His son, Qasim Khan, wrote on X that neither he nor any family member has received calls, messages, or updates on the former leader’s condition.
According to Qasim Khan, the former prime minister is being kept in a special unit normally reserved for prisoners sentenced to death. He said authorities have denied all forms of contact, leaving the family “completely in the dark.”
The family argues that the Pakistani government bears full responsibility for Imran Khan’s health and safety. Qasim Khan warned that any harm to his father would rest squarely with the state.
He called on international organizations and human-rights bodies to intervene immediately and assess Khan’s situation. The appeal comes as supporters continue to denounce his arrest and detention as politically motivated.
Imran Khan, the ousted leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has faced numerous charges since his removal from office. His allies insist the legal cases and his treatment in custody are aimed at sidelining him from politics.
Rights advocates have repeatedly urged transparency in his detention, saying prolonged isolation without access to lawyers or family may violate international standards. Analysts warn that the secrecy surrounding his confinement risks further damaging Pakistan’s already fragile political climate.
As pressure mounts, Islamabad faces growing scrutiny over its handling of a former elected leader. For many observers, Khan’s treatment has become a test case for the country’s commitment to due process and political freedoms.
