Martyn was widely admired in the cricketing world for his aggressive and flamboyant batting style. He represented Australia in 67 Test matches between 1992 and 2006, scoring 4406 runs at an average of 46.37, including 13 centuries. After a six-year absence, he made a strong comeback in 2000 and later retired during the 2006 Ashes series.

He was also a key member of Australia’s 1999 and 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning teams.
