SA20 thriller: Subrayen spins magic as Rossouw guides JSK to quick chase win

Spin all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen returned to haunt his former team with a brilliant new-ball spell, helping the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) beat the Durban Super Giants (DSG) by six wickets and earn a bonus point in the SA20.

The Super Kings chased down DSG’s meager total of 86 all out in just 12.2 overs, moving into second place on the points table behind Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Du Plessis smart bowling move

Captain Faf du Plessis made a smart move by opening the bowling with Subrayen, who tore through DSG’s top order, finishing with 3/16. Devon Conway was first to go in Subrayen’s opening over, followed by Kane Williamson and Jos Buttler, leaving DSG reeling at 21/3 in the Powerplay.

Du Plessis also made a clever decision by replacing wicket-keeper Donovan Ferreira with Matthew de Villiers. Ferreira bowled part-time off-spin and immediately made an impact, catching Heinrich Klaasen at short mid-wicket.

DSG’s innings never recovered, with captain Aiden Markram scoring 22 off 27 balls but failing to lift his team.

Rossouw powers JSK to victory

Chasing the small target, JSK stumbled early, losing both openers, Du Plessis and De Villiers, with only 19 runs on the board. Wiaan Mulder’s dismissal in the deep made it 24/3.

However, DSG’s fielding mistakes proved costly. Rilee Rossouw survived two crucial drops-on scores of 8 and 16 by Williamson and Evan Jones-and made them count. Rossouw hit five boundaries and a six to score 43, steering JSK close to victory. Donovan Ferreira finished the chase with 12 not out off 4 balls, sealing the six-wicket win.
