Manhunt for ‘stocky’ prisoner who failed to return to open jail after ‘approved visit’
The public has been warned not to approach a prisoner who failed to return to an open prison near Dundee after an approved visit.
James Fitzpatrick, 36, was reported missing to police on Tuesday, December 30, after failing to turn up at HMP Castle Huntly.
He is described as being white, around 5ft 8in tall, with a stocky build and short brown hair.
Fitzpatrick has connections with Ayrshire and was last seen at around 11.20am on Monday, December 29, possibly boarding a bus headed for Ardrossan.
‘Extensive’ inquiries and searches are ongoing to trace him.

Police Scotland has advised the public not to approach Fitzpatrick if spotted, and instead to call the police.
They are also encouraging anyone who has information to get in touch with the police.
What is an open prison?
Open prisons have low security measures and allow eligible prisoners to spend the majority of their day outside of the jail on licence to carry out work, education, or for other resettlement purposes.
This type of prison only houses inmates who have been risk-assessed and deemed suitable for open conditions.
