General Hospital is paying tribute to Anthony Geary after his death.

On Monday (December 15), Anthony‘s husband Claudio Gama announced that the soap opera icon, who played Luke Spencer, died as the result of complications from an operation three days earlier in the Netherlands. He was 78-years-old.

More than two weeks after his passing, General Hospital paid tribute to Anthony with a special encore of his final episode.

Keep reading to find out more…On Thursday (January 1), ABC aired Anthony‘s final episode of General Hospital before he officially retired. The episode originally aired on July 27, 2015 and marked Anthony‘s nearly four-decade run on the soap.

Anthony first joined General Hospital 1978 and throughout his career, he won an record-breaking eight Daytime Emmy awards.

Following his passing, Genie Francis – who played Luke’s longtime love Laura Spencer on General Hospital – recently paid tribute to Anthony.
