New 211 LA partnerships expand disaster relief in the county

211 LA County is creating a group of nonprofits and companies that will band together with 211 in response to disasters, to provide relief and support for victims, inspired by 211’s work in the wake of the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, the group announced Tuesday, Jan. 20.

211 LA took immediate action after the Eaton and Palisades fires began in January 2025, among their responses being creating a partnership with Airbnb.org that had displaced fire victims and pets housed in a matter of hours. By the end of January 2025, 211 had received over 50,000 wildfire-related calls. Expanding on that work, the nonprofit is putting together a new program in support of disaster survivors,  the Crisis Care Plan Alliance.

The Crisis Care Plan Alliance is intended to allow 211 to have corporate and nonprofit relationships ready to go when disaster strikes, augmenting the resources 211 can provide to disaster victims in Los Angeles County.

“These are the kind of integrations and relations that are going to help 211 grow and to respond,” Maribel Marin, the executive director of 211 LA County, said.

The partnerships will be an “infrastructure” to strengthen recovery efforts, which include housing support, food resources, mental health support, transportation assistance and help with FEMA applications.

People from various sectors of LA County spoke about fire recovery and the impact of 211’s work, including county assessor Jeff Prang, representatives from local government offices and Christine Chang, head of global operations at Airbnb.org.

211 also highlighted the stories of fire survivors the nonprofit was able to help, such as the Quiroz family, a family of eight who were displaced from Altadena after their home burned in the Eaton fire.

In a video shown at the event, Furmencio Quiroz recalled leaving with his family, his children fearful because the power had gone out, thinking they would be gone for a short time, but eventually returning to their home reduced to ashes. The family are living in a donated RV as they rebuild their home and cited 211’s assistance as imperative in their journey.
