Fipto Secures Crypto-Asset Service Provider License

0

Fipto, a provider of regulated payment infrastructure for stablecoins, now has both a Payment Institution (PI) license and a full Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license.

The company announced in a Tuesday (Jan.27) blog post that it secured a CASP license from the French Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF).

The combination of a PI license and a CASP license enables Fipto to bridge the gap between traditional fiat currencies and digital assets under a single compliance framework, as well as optimize the interplay between the two to ensure maximum security and operational speed, the company said in the release.

“From our governance structures to our risk management protocols, we have built a platform that provides the transparency and resilience that public companies and major financial actors demand,” Fipto CEO and Co-founder Patrick Mollard said in the release. “By unifying the PI and CASP frameworks, we are offering the first truly institutional grade gateway for global stablecoin payments.”

When Fipto secured 15 million euros ($16 million at the time) in seed funding in September 2023, the company said it aimed to enhance its treasury management platform that allows companies to efficiently manage their corporate treasury and conduct international payments using both fiat and digital currencies, all powered by blockchain technology.

The company said it aimed to bridge the gap between traditional and digital currencies, ensuring security and compliance.

Fipto secured its PI license from the French Prudential Control and Resolution Authority (ACPR), part of the Bank of France, in March 2025. The company said that accreditation enabled it to send and receive global fiat payments on behalf of third parties.

“Getting this approval is the result of a very demanding two-year process that will allow us to strengthen our value proposition in France and Europe,” Mollard said at the time, speaking of the PI license. “We can now master the entire payment chain, combining traditional currencies and digital currencies, to offer an infrastructure that is even more efficient, competitive and compliant with security and compliance requirements.”

The PYMNTS Intelligence and Citi collaboration “Chain Reaction: Regulatory Clarity as the Catalyst for Blockchain Adoption” found that the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which includes harmonized licensing, disclosure, reserve and governance rules for CASPs and others, has set the new baseline for digital asset governance.
