Grammys 2026: Bad Bunny wins a historic album of the year award

Bad Bunny won the Grammy for album of the year for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” the first-ever Spanish-language album to do so, while Kendrick Lamar with SZA took the Grammy for record of the year for the single, “Luther.”

The other two Grammys considered part of the Big Four went to Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell for “Wildflowers,” while best new artist went to British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean.

As presenter Harry Styles announced that Bad Bunny was the winner of the biggest and final Grammy of the night, the Puerto Rican singer-rapper closed his eyes and then put his hand over them, overcome with emotion at what he’d accomplished.

On reaching the stage, he gave his acceptance speech primarily in Spanish – a few hours earlier, after winning best musica urbana album, he’d spoken almost entirely in English.

“I want to dedicate this award to all the people who had to leave their homeland, their country, to follow their dreams,” he said while receiving the third Grammy out of six nominations that the soon-to-be Super Bowl halftime show performer (coming up on Sunday, Feb. 8), received on Sunday, Jan. 1.

Lamar won a total of five Grammys on Sunday, with record of the year  for “Luther,” following a win earlier for rap album of the year with “GNX.”

“This is special for me,” Lamar said of “Luther,” and Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn’s 1982 cover of “If This World Were Mine,” a song written by Marvin Gaye. “I’ve got to take my time. He’s one of my favorite artists of all time.

“When we got that clearance [to use the sample], we damn near all dropped a tear,” he continued. “Because we know how much they poured into that record. And being able to put our vocals to it provides that we are worthy of being just as great.”

The only requirement to use the sample? No cursing, which Lamar grinned as he revealed that, and added it was easy to do so for Luther.
