Clintons to Testify in House Epstein Probe Ahead of Contempt Vote

0

Bill and Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify in a U.S. congressional investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after lawmakers scheduled a vote to hold them in criminal contempt.

The decision followed earlier refusals by the former president and the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee to appear in person, arguing the inquiry was politically motivated and aimed at shielding President Donald Trump.

Reports note Bill Clinton flew on Epstein’s private jet several times in the early 2000s after leaving office, though he later expressed regret and said he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes.

The Justice Department recently released millions of documents related to Epstein, revealing contacts between the financier and numerous figures in politics, finance, academia and business.

Lawmakers say testimony from prominent figures is necessary to clarify relationships and decisions surrounding Epstein’s activities and networks, which remain under intense public scrutiny.

Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, maintained connections with influential global figures, fueling years of political and public controversy.

Congressional investigations have intensified as lawmakers seek transparency over how Epstein maintained elite connections despite earlier criminal allegations and legal actions against him.

The Clintons’ testimony is expected to become a key moment in the inquiry as Congress continues efforts to examine accountability and political connections tied to the Epstein case.
