Savannah Guthrie's Telling Decision Confirmed Amid Search for Nancy Guthrie

0

Savannah Guthrie, host of the Today Show, posted a message to social media late Monday night confirming her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her home after last being seen at 9:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 31.

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she said. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”

After the 84-year-old failed to show up for a church service the following morning a concerned friend called Nancy’s family, who conducted a search of her property before calling authorities, who now believe she’s been abducted.

“I believe she was abducted, yes,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said. “She didn’t walk from there. She didn’t go willingly.” In a news conference, the sheriff revealed, “It is a crime scene. We know that… We do have a crime.” He added, “She did not leave on her own. We know that.”

Savannah Guthrie Makes Final Decision on Olympics

Guthrie was slated to help with NBC's Winter Olympics coverage, but the network confirmed she pulled out of the global sports spectacle as the search for her mother continues.

"Savannah will not be joining us at the Olympics as she focuses on being with her family during this difficult time," an NBC spokesperson said. "Our hearts are with her and the entire Guthrie family as the search continues for their mother. We will share additional information about our Opening Ceremony coverage plans soon."

Pima County Sheriff Offered Update on DNA Evidence

During an interview with CBS 5 host Briana Whitney, Nanos confirmed the police are doing rapid DNA testing, but ran into a slight snag.

“We actually are. So we have our own DNA rapid testing here, and of course, we use a lab. But we’ve been told that the system here in Tucson is down, so we ran that up to Phoenix [Monday],” the sheriff responded. “So hopefully here we’ll know something from Phoenix that we can maybe get to our labs and get a rush order done from them, but even then it’s still a few days, and nothing’s fast enough, right?”

Savannah Guthrie's Brother-In-Law May Be Potential Suspect

Late Tuesday, Feb. 3 NewsNation journalist Ashleigh Banfield alleged that Tommaso Cioni, the husband of Annie Guthrie, may be a suspect or person of interest in Guthrie's disappearance. TMZ also reported Cioni as a potential suspect, but the sheriff's office hasn't confirmed a list of suspects.

Us Weekly previously reported Annie Guthrie was the last person to see her mother, dropping her off at her home after a dinner on Saturday, Jan. 31 night.
