Entries invited for EA-backed free online course on how sport can protect and restore nature

European Aquatics has participated in the testing of the Sport and Nature: Fundamentals for Action course – free and online -which was officially launched today (February 4)

EA was pleased to contribute to the pilot group for an initiative that was developed by Sports for Nature – a joint initiative of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the International Olympic Committee, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy.

The course – which aligns with the values of the EA’s Aquatics Social Responsibility (ASR) programme – offers sport professionals their first meaningful steps indiscovering how sport can play a vital role in protecting and restoring nature.

Through five lessons – for which there will be a certificate of completion – participants will be able to learn about the deep connection between sport and the natural environment and gain practical knowledge about making a positive impact through their work.

“In this course,” the Sports for Nature organisers write, “you will explore the critical links between sport and nature, uncover the risks and opportunities sport events, venues and operations present to nature and what to do about them, and learn actionable strategies to support nature in and through sport.

“Through interactive exercises, videos and real-world scenarios, you’ll gain foundational knowledge, practical skills and insights to champion nature in your organisation and integrate nature-friendly approaches into everyday operations and long-term planning.”

The course – which takes approximately two hours –  includes three main modules which each include an introduction video, a deeper dive section with quiz questions and an exercise, and a final review module including an end-of-course quiz and a final assessment exercise.
