NBC Drama Set for Cancellation as Network Pulls Final Episodes From Schedule
One of NBC's newest drama shows looks all but formally confirmed as cancelled, after the network has taken the final six episodes of the season off its schedule. To make matters worse, another series has already taken the medical show's place.
Brilliant Minds, the Zachary Quinto-led hospital drama, is one of several NBC shows taking a hiatus amid the network's coverage of the Winter Olympics, which takes place across Italy from February 6 to February 22.
Other affected NBC shows include:
- Chicago Fire
- Chicago Med
- Chicago PD
- Happy's Place
- Law & Order
- Law & Order: SVU
- St. Denis Medical
- Stumble
- The Hunting Party
However, unlike the shows listed above, Brilliant Minds no longer has a return date, according to a new report by Variety. NBC has announced that The Voice: Battle of Champions will air Mondays from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT. This will begin on February 23, the day after the Winter Olympics closing ceremony.
This, according to the outlet, has permanently taken the place of Brilliant Minds. Season 2 has occupied the Monday nights at 10 pm ET slot, and the unaired six episodes have been unceremoniously kicked off.
According to a source at NBC speaking to Variety, the network plans to air these final six episodes, but a date is currently undetermined. This is bad news for fans of the series, as this lack of urgency for showcasing new episodes sounds like the medical show has been officially declared dead.
Brilliant Minds has seen a decline in its health among regular viewers. According to data collected by Nielsen Live+7. In the Season 2 premiere, for example, which aired on September 22 last year, the show managed a 0.28 rating between adults aged 18-49 — a total of 3.67 million viewers.
For the episode airing on January 12 of this year, the most recent episode for which Live+7 data is available, the show pulled a far slimmer 0.19 rating, with 2.6 million viewers. The Season 1 finale, in contrast, drew a 0.32 rating and 4.2 million viewers back in January 2025.
