Fresh injury blow for Man Utd, midfielder ruled out for three weeks

Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer has been dealt another frustrating injury setback at a crucial stage of his development.

The young midfielder secured a winter loan move to Hull City in search of regular minutes and renewed momentum.

Collyer was in line to feature again against Chelsea in the FA Cup, only for injury to strike during training.

According to The Manchester Evening News, Collyer has been ruled out for three weeks after a hamstring setback.

It marks another frustrating chapter in what has been a stop-start campaign for the midfielder.

Collyer spent the first half of the season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, hoping to establish himself in the Championship.

However, persistent injury issues restricted him to just 253 minutes across 12 league appearances.

United recalled him in January before sanctioning a fresh loan switch to Hull City in a bid to get his season back on track.

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Collyer is valued for his athleticism, ball-winning instincts and ability to cover large areas of the pitch.

Despite his obvious talent, the 2025-26 season has proven to be an uphill battle.

He made his senior debut for United under former head coach Erik ten Hag in 2024 against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Collyer went on to make 12 further appearances before Casemiro re-established himself in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

With Casemiro expected to leave at the end of the season and uncertainty surrounding Manuel Ugarte, Collyer could find his way back into the senior set-up.

However, the immediate priority is regaining full fitness and putting together a consistent run of performances during his loan spell.

Hull City will be hoping that the former Brighton & Hove Albion prospect can return swiftly and play a decisive role in their push for Premier League promotion.
