Woman killed, child injured in crash in Hayward crosswalk
HAYWARD — A woman was killed and a child injured after a driver struck the two pedestrians at a crosswalk on Saturday evening.
The collision happened at around 6:20 p.m. at the crosswalk near the intersection of West Tennyson Road and Baldwin Street, said the Hayward Police Department.
According to authorities, officers arrived at the location and found a 60-year-old driver, a Hayward resident, who was cooperative and provided a statement about the incident.
“The driver’s identity is not being released at this time,” said the Hayward Police Department in a statement on Sunday.
Authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the accident.
The 59-year-old woman and the 6-year-old boy involved in the collision were taken to a nearby hospital, where the woman eventually succumbed to her injuries.
The boy suffered from facial fractures and has been reunited with his family members, authorities said.
The woman’s identity is withheld until the next of kin are notified and is formally identified by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office.
This is the second fatal collision in Hayward in 2026, according to police.
