Trump gives mortal enemy rare praise — as a tool to destroy others
President Donald Trump issued one of his longstanding political rivals a rare compliment Monday while aboard Air Force One, though only in an effort to attack two other political rivals of his.
Unprompted, Trump told reporters Monday night that he had watched footage of the annual Munich Security Conference in Germany, and had a few choice words for two of its speakers in particular: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
“I watched AOC answering questions in Munich – this was not a good look for the United States,” Trump said. “I watched Gavin 'Newscum' answering questions in Munich, and this was a bad look for our country!”
Both Ocasio-Cortez and Newsom spoke at the conference, and both took harsh digs at Trump and his administration. Ocasio-Cortez warned that Trump’s policies were designed to usher in an “age of authoritarianism,” while Newsom offered a backhanded compliment crediting Trump with uniting Europe against his foreign policy.
Their remarks apparently didn’t sit well with Trump, who felt compelled to offer his own backhanded compliment to Hillary Clinton, invoking his former rival to cast the two in an unflattering light.
“These two people are incompetent! At least Hillary's competent. She's just Trump deranged, she was so deranged, she is an angry woman,” Trump said.
“But I watched the other two speaking and answering basic questions… [AOC] had no idea what was happening, she had no idea how to answer very important questions concerning the world. She can't answer questions concerning New York City either, because New York City is ... got some problems.”
