Fighting erupted after militants from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan launched an explosive-laden vehicle attack on a security checkpoint, killing 11 soldiers and triggering intense gun battles with responding troops.

Security officials in Pakistan confirmed that 12 militants were also killed during the operation, which occurred in Bajaur district following a powerful explosion near military positions.

According to Express Tribune on Tuesday, the confrontation unfolded in Bajaur within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an area that has seen frequent militant activity and rising violence in recent weeks.

Authorities also reported another bombing involving a rigged rickshaw in Bannu district a day earlier, leaving two civilians dead and around twenty others injured, heightening security fears.

Pakistan’s prime minister and president condemned the Bajaur assault, pledging continued action against militant groups while promising stronger protection measures for soldiers and civilians facing repeated attacks.

In recent months, attacks targeting checkpoints, police patrols, and civilian areas have increased, raising concerns about militant regrouping and renewed insurgent capabilities in border regions.

Security analysts warn that continued instability in northwest Pakistan could strain military resources, disrupt local economies, and create prolonged insecurity affecting communities already facing economic hardship.

The latest deadly clashes underline urgent security challenges for authorities, emphasizing the need for coordinated regional efforts to curb violence and restore stability across conflict-hit areas.
