Zack Snyder Fires Back at ‘Toxic’ Fan Claims With Blunt Message to Critics
During his appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, director Zack Snyder took the opportunity to denounce those who criticize his fans, telling them to "go f**ck yourselves."
The filmmaker is best known for directing Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, which are recognized as some of the most divisive comic book movies in recent memory. His fans have a very loud online presence, ofting pressuring Warner Bros. to give Snyder another shot at the D.C. universe.
Snyder Disapproves of His Fans' Critics
Ever since Snyder exited the D.C. universe following the divisive reception to Justice League, his fans have been publicly campaigning for the director to return and allow his vision to fully actualize without too much studio interference.
This campaign ultimately led to the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, a fresh cut of the movie that's more true to the filmmaker's original vision before it was essentially remade by Joss Whedon. This was a massive victory for the 'Snyderverse' fans, but their calls to action haven't stopped there.
Since James Gunn took over D.C. Studios and rebooted Superman, recasting Henry Cavill's previous iteration of the character with David Corenswet, Snyder's fans have returned to their loud online campaign to bring the director's D.C. universe back.
"I was on the ride that created Justice League," Snyder explained, "and if you were in my shoes there were numerous times, dark times, when there was no chance that there will ever be my version of it. It will never exist. It can’t… cost, politics, everything stood against. And yet it exists.”
When asked about the toxicity that's leveled against his fans alone, Snyder said: "They also raised a ton of money for suicide prevention. They did a lot of good. They catch a lot of flak for being toxic or whatever, but they literally saved human lives. You can go f–k yourselves if that’s what you think.”
The director credited his fans for making that happen, expressing that they "should never forget" how important they were in bringing Zack Snyder's Justice League to life. When it comes to James Gunn's DCU, however, Snyder had nothing but praise.
"James is cool. I wish them all the best. It is what it is." He went on to explain that the Snyderverse "...has its own life. It’s not concerned with James’ Superman, which is amazing and all the best to them. I can’t wait to see the next movie. It’s awesome. To me, it’s not the same thing. It’s a different thing.”
