China says envoy to be sent to Middle East to push for ceasefire in Israel-U.S.–Iran conflict

China said it will send a special envoy to the Middle East to help mediate efforts aimed at stopping the escalating regional conflict.

The Chinese foreign ministry said on Thursday, March 5, that Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Saudi Arabian counterpart about the worsening crisis.

Beijing said it could not remain a passive observer as the war intensifies and urged all sides to pursue diplomatic solutions to end hostilities.

In a statement, the ministry called on all parties to halt military operations immediately, return to dialogue and prevent further escalation in the region.

The appeal comes as Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iran have entered their sixth day, raising fears of a broader regional war.

Iran has reported heavy casualties since the conflict began, with rights monitors saying hundreds of civilians have been killed and thousands wounded in strikes.

The United States and Israel say the campaign targets military infrastructure and nuclear-related facilities, arguing the operations are aimed at weakening Iran’s strategic capabilities.

Analysts warn that continued fighting could destabilize the wider Middle East, increasing pressure on global powers to intensify diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire.
