'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' Season 2 Is Just the Beginning — More Spinoffs Are Coming
Outlander may be ending its flagship run with the final season premiering today, but the universe it built over more than a decade on Starz is far from finished.
With Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 already confirmed, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts is now hinting that even more spinoffs are in the works. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Roberts confirmed the team has "definitely been talking about more spinoffs," and teased that there "might be some news in the future" for fans to look out for — stopping just short of making a formal announcement.
'Blood of My Blood' Proved the Universe Has Legs
The confidence behind that tease is rooted in hard data. Blood of My Blood — which focuses on the backstory of Jamie's parents and Claire's parents — premiered in August 2025 to overwhelmingly positive reviews, landing a Certified Fresh 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. It remained at the top of Starz's streaming charts throughout its entire first season run, making it one of the network's biggest success stories of the year.
What 'Outlander' Spinoffs Could Come Next?
Roberts didn't reveal which characters, timelines, or storylines might serve as the basis for future spinoffs — but the source material offers plenty of options. Beyond the nine published Gabaldon novels (with a tenth book in the works), the franchise includes several novellas focused on characters other than Jamie and Claire, a graphic novel, and an entire spinoff book series centered on Lord John Grey.
That last one has a particularly interesting history. During Season 4, a Lord John Grey spinoff script was written and actor David Berry — who plays the character on the show — even signed a contract for the series. Plans were quietly scrapped, but Berry has continued to express interest in revisiting the idea. Whether the renewed spinoff conversations include a Lord John revival remains unclear.
For the millions of viewers preparing to say goodbye to Jamie and Claire this spring, Roberts' comments are the clearest signal yet that the world of Outlander isn't going anywhere. The main series finale airs May 8 on Starz, but if the showrunner is right, the next chapter of the franchise may not be far behind.
Outlander Season 8 premieres Friday, March 6 on Starz. Blood of My Blood Season 2 is currently in development.
