Doyle, even at his best, can’t play in a midfield 2 because he’s so unathletic and is close to useless out of possession as he’s so easy to run past.

Apart from a decent showing against Leeds, Doyle has been largely poor since the turn of the year which with the arrival of Solis came at just the wrong time.

Davies never criticises individuals, but when he talked after Boro in defence of Beadle about us not being brave enough in showing for the ball, it’s not hard to know who he’s talking about - that was Doyle’s role and he just didn’t do it.

Doyle is best when he’s got time and space to pick a pass but he’s not close to Paiks level facing his own goal, receiving the ball under pressure and getting is playing out from the back.
